Do I Really Need a Nursing Bra?

November 11, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (14)

I bought two nursing bras this weekend...and I am still a little skeptical. Did I really need them? Couldn't I just wear a sports bra and pull it over to the side?

Will I even be wearing a bra at all?

Cats in the Crib -- Help!

November 9, 2009 at 12:00 PM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (15)

two cats

Louie is one the left;

Puffins is the white one on right.

I have two cats. Two crazy cats. I cannot stress the crazy enough. It scares me actually because if I raised two cats who are insane, what will my babies be like? OK, felines and humans are different, yes, but still!

Lil Louie Monster is the baby cat. He is 3 years old and we've had him since he was just 8 weeks old. He lives up to the monster in his name and he's jealous if our attention is anywhere but on him. Oh and he plays fetch with his ball. Impressive for a cat.

Mr. Puffins is like an angry old man. No one really gets him but me. We adopted him from a shelter when he was about 5 or 6, which makes him about 8 or 9 now. He lived on the streets for most of those 5 or 6 years. He's a tough one and has only one tooth since they were rotted so bad from eating garbage for years.

I love my cats. I don't want to get rid of them, but here is what I'm afraid of....

When Should the Nursery Be Ready?

baby room

Hubs and I in the nursery! It's a start!

Last week my husband and I were in a panic. Yeah, both of us, which is bad because we didn't have one to talk sense into the other. We were looking at our empty nursery. We have not one diaper in the house. And we just entered our third trimester. Oh and we're having twins and can go early.

I called my mom.

I Went on the Hospital Tour

October 3, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (19)

hospitalFor some reason I was way too excited to go on the hospital tour. My hubs was too. But it was weird...when we got there and waited for it to start in a room full of others who were about to embark on the tour as well, everyone seemed cranky.

The guide was a sweetheart of a woman who also is one of the hospital's lactation consultants. One of the dads asked her what lactation meant.

But I was the annoying person who asked the most questions.

And I was also the only one who cried when we saw the babies in the nursery. They were so cute!

Baby Bargains: A Must Read Resource

September 26, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (3)

baby bargainsI was talking to a breastfeeding mom about electric pumps and she told me the one she uses, but also said that I should check out the book Baby Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields -- an invaluable resource on everything you need for your baby registry and to prep for baby's arrival.

I eat books. Well, only chocolate covered ones. So of course, I picked up a copy.

One of the best things I ever bought!

Unexpected Musts for Hospital Bag

September 15, 2009 at 4:00 PM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (23)

hospital bag what to pack

who just gave birth in this photo -- gorgeous!

My husband wants us to start thinking about and preparing the hospital bag. I'm 25 weeks -- isn't he cute?

But it is a good idea because it's one of those things that can be forgotten about and who wants to be throwing things in a bag at the last minute?

I realized one thing I want in the bag -- slippers that will not be returning with me home. I want to get a cheap pair that will be my hospital stay only slippers and I'll throw them out before I leave so I don't trek any possible germs home with me.

I'm a slight germaphobe.

Many of us know the hospital bag essentials, but what about those unexpected musts? I've got a list!

What If Your Doctor/Midwife Can't Make Your Delivery?

doctor missing birth

Some people snicker at the thought of a birth plan. But I like the idea of having a plan. Sure...things don't always go as expected, but it's good to have a plan A. What about a plan B? Plan C?

One mom I know ended up having strangers deliver both her babies because her doctor was unavailable at go-time. Another mom had an unplanned home birth.

As a first-time mama-to-be, this possiblity is super scary to me.
