Twins parents-to-be!
I know some people may think this is absolutely weird, but I had a Halloween-themed baby shower.
I'm actually having two baby showers. (Hey, I'm having twins!) One is for friends, the other is for family.
My friend baby shower happened last weekend and we had it at my house. My husband and I just moved into a new place and we wanted to have a housewarming, but with the babies coming, we thought we could do it all together. My sister took care of a lot of things for me and we had a lot of fun planning it.

I'm a little clueless when it comes to baby shower traditions. The only tradition I've seen is the making of the hat with the bows and ribbons from the gifts.
I've only recently learned what a diaper cake was and I just was clued in to the diaper baby. And wow -- how much do I love these ideas! They are not only adorable, but they are filled with items you really need!

When you have baby, you'll say words like "poop," "breast," "diaper," "cry" and "sleep" about a million times a day. These words are short, easy to say, and self-explanatory for a reason: With a baby, you will no longer have the time or desire to consult a dictionary, or comb your hair.
During pregnancy, however, you're confronted with lots of long, medical-sounding words, most of which will leave you saying, "Huh?" (Except for the word episiotomy -- for some reason every pregnant woman knows what that means.)
So that you can prove to everyone how smart you are about this birthing thing, here's a list from Fit Pregnancy of some of the most common pregnancy terms that doctors and friends will bandy about in the coming months. These in particular definitely threw me ...

I know my mom and sister are at work planning my baby shower, or should I say babies shower for my boy and girl twinners. I'm so excited -- I love parties!
So I thought, why not have my very own shower, right here on CafeMom -- a virtual shower, so all my CafeMoms friends can come celebrate with me.

I was talking to a breastfeeding mom about electric pumps and she told me the one she uses, but also said that I should check out the book Baby Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields -- an invaluable resource on everything you need for your baby registry and to prep for baby's arrival.
I eat books. Well, only chocolate covered ones. So of course, I picked up a copy.
One of the best things I ever bought!

Whether you're the mommy-to-be or you're the friend who's planning, baby showers are an important event during a pregnancy. Here are some links I love to help you plan:

Next to the actual birth of your baby, your shower will likely be the biggest event of your pregnancy. It's always nice when it turns out exactly as you always dreamed it would be. And one of the ways to make sure that happens is to, well, throw the shower yourself.
The African American Mommies were tossing this idea around recently to mixed reviews.
Some said no way, it's like calling people up and asking for gifts. Others agree it's still really bad manners, but since nobody pays attention to that stuff anymore, why not? But some said it makes perfect sense; a few even spoke up and admitted to hosting their own showers.

I crave watermelons, burritos, tacos, pasta with peas and garlic and oil, and lemonade, lemonade, and more lemonade, but my most recent pregnancy craving is wanting to buy things for my twins!
I actually haven't bought a thing yet. I was given a layette set and also Earth Mama Angel Baby's A Little Something for Baby gift sets, but other than that I've been waiting. Patiently.
We're moving tomorrow, so that's the main reason why. Who needs to pack more stuff? But once we're settled into our new place...lookout -- it's on!

I told my husband that I got this adorable layette set for baby boy. Don't worry baby girl -- I'll get you one too! And you know what he said? What's a layette set?
It's our first child, well children (twins), so we're new at this. We're learning!
I explained it was like a starter set of clothes and PJs for a newborn all in one box. And I found this one for under $20!

Guest blog from Lucky magazine editor and CafeMom Meredith Rollins. She has a two-year-old son and is pregnant with her second, due in September.
I am a huge sucker for nice stationary, even though I never manage to write as many letters as I intend to. There's something so lovely about heavy card stock, and pretty inks, and substantial envelopes...it all feels really thoughtful and ladylike in a way that an email or an e-card can't entirely replicate.
The very fanciest, old-school company is Dempsey & Carroll, and despite their fanciness they have an incredible sale every year, with really great stuff at almost 75 percent off.
