Could Your Man Handle Being Pregnant?

Hubs & I practicing with diaper babies!

My husband, oh I love him, but I don't think he would be able to handle being pregnant. I don't think he could handle bleeding once a month either. Or PMS. Or just having a vagina. I don't think a lot of men could.

I think my hubs can handle lots of things -- he's great in times of panic, he's very level-headed and that pays off a lot, and he's a great cook -- but I think he would have a breakdown if he had to grow a baby, or babies in my case, in his belly, along with all the pregnancy symptoms.

My first trimester I was amazed at my growing belly. It's funny...looking back at it  now it was so small! I had terrible morning sickness all day, but was still was thrilled to be carrying twins.

Second trimester had some ups and downs, but there was a point where I felt so great, so healthy, and pretty, sporting a cute bump.

Now I'm in my third trimester and hello heartburn, edema, carpal tunnel, and tons of crankiness. I'm almost ready to scream, Get these babies out of me!!

Carpal Tunnel During Pregnancy

November 16, 2009 at 12:00 PM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (6)

handsI'm on the computer for work...and I'm typing this right now. When I'm deep in thought and pounding at the keys, I'm not thinking about the pain, but when I stop, it does hurt. A lot.

It's carpal tunnel...one of the products of swelling or edema during pregnancy.

Yes, anyone can get it from typing, but I have it from being pregnant. The swelling in my wrists presses on the nerve, and then affects my hands. My middle three fingers on my right hand are numb.

My husband and I went to visit my parents last weekend and we take the train an hour upstate to see them. We had just left the house and I realized I forgot something.

I forgot my pills, I told my hubs.

Which ones?

My birth control pills.

He laughed. Obviously I am not on birth control.

I mean my pregnancy pills, I stuttered. You know, my daily pill.

Your prenatals?

Sigh. Yes.

For the life of me I couldn't remember the words prenatal vitamins.

Edema: Swelling During Pregnancy

November 4, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (6)

elephant feetMy feet are swollen. Not just a little bit swollen -- full on cannot see the ankles swelling up through the knee really bad like I've never seen before swollen swollen. My hands are slightly swollen, too, but not as bad.

Even if my feet are up all day, they still swell. Even when I first wake up in the morning, they are still big fat swelled up piggies. I would show you a photo but it's so so bad, I just can't.

It's edema at it's worst (or maybe best?) making me super uncomfortable. It even hurts to walk. I can't even fit into certain shoes because of the swelling!

This week I was SHOCKED to learn that I have gained ZERO pounds! I feel huge, much bigger than my last appointment, but I guess no heavier. The doctor did measure my belly, and boy, have I grown. I am measuring 34 cm, and this is unbelievable to me. So, I am bigger, just not heavier!

Oh How My Nipples Have Changed

September 15, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (9)

breasts change pregnancyTMI alert...I've always had big nipples and areolas. But wow...they seem bigger than ever during pregnancy, plus they are a much darker color. And my boobs have increased a full cup size so far and I'm 25 weeks along.

I remember seeing my mom's nipples years and years ago (early teens), and was in awe of how brown they were in comparison to my own. I asked her why they were different than mine. She told me that they change when you have a baby.

They sure do!

Hemorrhoids vs. Morning Sickness

September 4, 2009 at 7:00 AM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (5)

hemorrhoids morning sickness

Photo from Earth Mama Angel Baby

My morning sickness ended around 16 weeks -- and it was bad. Twins. They say it lasts longer. I still have my occasional dry heave, particularly when brushing my teeth or if I move too much right after I eat, but overall it's gone. And that was a huge relief.

But next up is hemorrhoids.

Wedding Ring Won't Fit My Swollen Finger

September 2, 2009 at 4:00 PM by Cafe MicheleZ - Comments (12)

puffy fingers wedding ringIt happened -- at 23 weeks, my fingers are swollen and I can't wear my wedding rings anymore. Sigh.

I also can barely get my fat ankles in my boots, but that's a whole other deal.

It feels weird not to have rings on my finger, so I substituted with another ring as not to feel naked. First I put on a cocktail ring with a huge fake topaz stone and my hubs thought it was obnoxious. Which it was, but fun. For a day.

Now I'm wearing this pretty ruby stone ring that belonged to my mom. It actually has two rubies and two little diamonds -- kind of symbolizing my soon-to-be family of four.
