My husband and I were trying to have a baby for months, so each month when my period was late, I'd want to take a pregnancy test right away. We spent a lot of money on pregnancy tests! I would always take it too soon because I was so anxious and then would waste another one a few days later.
But back in March, I remember having a stronger urge to take the test, even though hubs said to wait a few more days. I took it when he wasn't home and it instantly told me I was pregnant. I waited out the three minutes and yep, still pregnant.

Me, Gretchen, and Jenn
at another friend's wedding in July
Most of my closest friends that I see on a daily basis do not have children. Key words there are "daily basis." The friends I have who do have kids I don't see as much, however a lot of them live further away from me as well.
It got me worried.
Are my relationships with my friends going to be affected the later I get in my pregnancy? Will they be affected even more once the babies arrive?

My favorite 'smooch my husband' photo
(besides our wedding day)
At one meeting with my doula, we talked about sex. Not the sex of my twins, but sex sex -- as in sex with my husband. I laughed because it's just not really happening lately. Nausea throughout my first and some of my second trimester made getting it on nearly impossible and now in my final stretch of my second trimester, I'm just not feeling it. Wait, let me clarify that.

Going on a nature walk
My friend Tina has a house in upstate NY and invited some girl friends to spend a couple of days. It happened to fall on the same weekend as my niece's 2nd birthday, and after feeling guilty and selfish, then my sister urging me to go, I went.
Great decision!
It was like a babymoon, only bonding with friends instead.

I had always heard that oral sex was a no-no during pregnancy, but Cafe MicheleZ has given us the real lowdown on that. What about anal sex—is it safe?

I've written about dating when pregnant (go mamas!), but let's talk about breaking up during pregnancy.
Wow. I cannot imagine going through that -- breaking up is hard enough as it is...throw in pregnancy and it's a whole other animal. A fierce, snarling, evil clawed rabid animal.
And there are lots of mamas-to-be going through a breakup.

Could this photo of my hubs be any more perfect?
Taken as a joke before 'we' were pregnant.
I'm a huge bundle of hormones right now. Mood swings, irritability, food aversions and cravings -- you know the list. It's all common when you are pregnant, but it's happening to my husband, too.
It's called Couvade Syndrome, aka Sympathetic Pregnancy, and it affects dads-to-be during and sometimes even after his partner gives birth.

I have been feeling very caught up lately -- both my husband and I do. We've both been very busy with work, we were on the hunt for a new apartment for weeks, constantly on appointments to see new spaces, and the moments we do spend together it seems we are always talking about baby names for our twins, baby gear, the baby room...or I am taking a nap.
All of the above is amazing and we are super happy, but we really could use a date night. Just me and him, alone, for a brief hour or two, focusing just on each other.
You know what I mean?

If I'd waited for my husband to agree that it was time to start a family, I'd still be waiting today. Then again, Mr. Procrastination also waited five years after we started dating to produce an engagement ring, so it was none to surprising or out of character for him.
So seven years ago around this time of year, I took the initiative and he reluctantly agreed. He would have liked to be a bit more "settled." Our house was still being fixed up (and still is) and our bank account was quite small (and still is). But today he's glad we had our kids when we did, so for me being pushy worked out.
Sometimes, women who want to get pregnant for the first time are up against much greater resistance.
laurenleblanc and her hubby just can't agree on the best time to start their family.

Single moms date. But what about single and pregnant moms-to-be dating?
I know a woman who dated when she was pregnant. She is successful, smart, and beautiful. While I don't know all the details of her story, I do know when she was pregnant with her twins she was single...and dating.
