Mom Confessions: I Am Not a Fun Mom

mom confessionsIt's time for a Mom Confession — because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

I am not a fun mom.

The other night, while on a playdate at the park, I watched my sister-in-law play tag with my niece, nephew, and my daughter. She was running all over the place and screaming and laughing. My daughter was having a blast. I just stood there frozen and watching. I felt so awkward. I would never feel natural playing with kids like that. I don't even think I played like that when I was a kid. I'm pretty sure I'm the most un-fun mom on the planet.  -- anonymous

i voted other.  its depends on my mood that day, how hot it is outside and other factors. some days im all about being active and running around with my kids, painting/coloring with DD but other days i just want to sit around and let them entertain themselves.

I live for my kids, and I am always trying to plan fun activities for them to do. But I don't often play with them. There are moments when we will have tickle matches, and wrestle on the floor, but I don't play tag, or dress up, or pretend games. I love to read to my children, and take them to the park, but usually I sit on the side and watch them have fun. I consider myself a fun mom, because I plan fun things for them to do. Children need independent play time too, and some parents just spend too much time entertaining their kids, to the point that the kids cannot entertain themselves.

I voted other - to my son, I am a fun mom, but to me, I'm not fun enough because I don't have the stamina to play as long as he does or as hard.  That's why he's part of my motivation for losing weight and eating better - so I can enjoy more active play with him.  When it comes to the imaginary play, I'm definitely not as fun - his imagination is so much more active than mine, that when he does ask me to play, I generally spend the time watching him more than anything, unless he gives me clear directions and a "script" to follow.  But honestly, he doesn't seem to mind, so I don't fuss about that!

I agree with AgentBrez, it totally depends on my mood.

It does depend on my mood but I am not the type to run and and play pretend. I rather read, do puzzles, art and crafts, and things like that.

I always thought I had an imagination until now! My two-year-old just looks at me most of the time like 'you're no fun Mom!'. Of course all he wants to do is run, climb, wrestle, etc. I'm TIRED! I feel like a boring old fart, but I'd rather read and do quiet activities. Boy, what a bore I turned out to be!!!!

My husband is the "fun" one. He wrestles and chases our daughter, I color and read.

God that sounds boring all written out.

I'm unfun because I just rarely play with my kids.  I have a worse attention span then they do and can't sit there for 30 minutes playing Candy Land.  It would drive me insane.  I prefer them to entertain themselves anyway.  I don't sit around trying to come up with fun things for them to do, that's their job.  When they whine to me that they are bored I get out the bucket of soapy water to wash walls.  They can usually find something on their own after that, lol.

depends on the activity...sometimes I feel like that...but mostly when it is something that I really can't do much in, like when he is riding his cars outside, or tells me "no, i play, you no play". :(

But in general. I think i am a fun mom.
