Some fun moms, like CafeMom suroundedbyboys, are hoping to do daily Christmas Countdown activities with their kids this holiday season.
The Christmas Countdown takes the advent calendar to a whole new level of fun. Instead of (or in addition to the advent calendar), you and your kids participate in one fun, holiday-themed activity each day from December 1st to December 25th. That's a whole lot of fun for the holidays!

I am oh so grateful that there wasn't YouTube when I was growing up, my mom would have had the ability to blackmail me for life.
But it is neat how you can see kids' talents early on (or in my case, lack thereof!). Here are some links I love:

Games, puzzles, toys, building blocks, dollhouse play, arts and crafts, fort building, video games, reading, there are a lot of activities you can play with your kids, if you're so inclined.
What are you and your kids' favorite activities to play together?

Photo from My Paper Crane
I've been keeping my eye out for simple Thanksgiving crafts to do with toddlers, and I found a few that make me happy.
Loving this family hands turkey card from My Paper Crane. This puts a little spin on the traditional kid handprint turkey we see year after year. And if you have a larger family, stretched out this could make an adorable mantle decoration. :)

It's an almost-rainy Veterans Day here in Northern California (love the above photo by Punkylu78).
Is it raining where you live? Are you and your toddler stuck indoors?

The Baby Einstein debate, and Disney's refund — you've probably heard a lot of talking about babies and kids and the "big bad TV" lately.
Well, here's an interesting perspective from Julia Pimsleur Levine. Julia actually makes an educational DVD series for tots, but she's also a mom. And she makes a very valid point about the importance of promoting media literacy rather than "demonizing" the television altogether.
When it comes to toddlers watching TV, it doesn't have to be all or nothing, does it?

"Little boys in ballet/tap?" asks CafeMom hanksmom0207 in the Advice for Moms group. "Is that okay for little boys?"
I'm probably about as "pro" boys in dance classes as they come, but I'd love to hear what you have to say.

According to new findings released by Nielsen, kids ages 2 to 5 watch television for more than 32 hours a week on average (6- to 11-year old watch more than 28 hours' worth!).
Wow, I'm a friend of TV and not even remotely an advocate for television-free parenting, and I find this pretty shocking.

I do love a cardboard playhouse (not an $89 cardboard playhouse, mind you...), and this new Color Me House and Color Me Rocket can turn into hours and hours of good creative fun for toddlers. Plus, it's low impact on the planet when they're done...
