Mom Confessions: I've Given My Child Benadryl For Early Bedtime

October 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM by Daily Buzz Team - Comments (41)

bedtimeIt's time for a Mom Confession -- because, let's face it, we're real mothers and sometimes it doesn't work the way the parenting books say it should.

This Week's Confession:

I've given my kid Benedryl to ensure an early bedtime because I just couldn't take it anymore. I needed sleep but I've only done it once or twice and only a small amount.anonymous

Oh...what to do with the adorable crib set once baby outgrows it?

I recently came across this awesome idea from CafeMom sgr123 in the Susie Homemaker group.

This smart mom repurposed her daughter's baby bedding into pretty accents for her toddler-ized room.

Sleeping With Stuffed Animals Too Dangerous?

Can you find the sleeping child in the photo?

Oh, yes, there she is ... to the left of Mickey Mouse and due south of Pink Pig. And I think she's being kissed by Mr. Brown Bear over in the upper left corner.

This little girl is a year old. My daughter is 4 and I allow her two stuffed animals with her in her toddler bed at night.

Toddlers on Lockdown -- Good Idea or Not?

locking toddlers in their rooms

I've always had trouble getting my toddlers to stay in their beds and rooms at bedtime, but never anything like this!

One anonymous CafeMom's 4 and 2 year old boys have been destroying the house at night:

"At least once a week they will both wake up in the middle of the night and bring food from the kitchen to their rooms. They'll open every piece and spray it across the room,'' she says.

"Often times they empty out the closets, as well. One morning I woke up at 2 a.m. with a jar of rice all over my 2 year old's room, mixed in with some Kool-Aid powder (didn't even know that I had that) with every single toy out of the closet. Then I walked into my 4 year old's room and he had all of his plastic kiddie forks all over the floor and in the peanut butter jar, and a pack of crackers crushed into the carpet."

Saying Goodbye to Binky

I've heard of countless ways to get children to give up the pacifier. But none are quite as creative as these binky weaning methods from MomLogic:

  • In Denmark, toddlers donate their old pacifiers to the zoo...Why?

Perfect Toddler Blanket Idea

toddler blanket idea

A mom in Toddler Moms was complaining that it's hard to find a good toddler size blanket for the crib. They are either too small (for babies) or too big (for big kids and adults).

A lot of moms use throws to cover their sleeping tots, but last weekend I came up with a great solution: I sewed four of my daughter's baby blankets together to make a bigger blanket.

These were the soft, cotton knit Carters blankets she had as a baby. They are the perfect weight for summer, and I often wished they'd come in a toddler size.

Girl's Room Showdown: Which One Do You Like?

Pink Daisy Garden bedroom Pottery Barn Kids

When my daughter was born, we didn't have the time or the money to give her a proper nursery. We just threw her crib, an old dresser, and a used changing table in a former guest room.

To this day there's still nothing hanging on her walls. For the past four years, the poor thing has been looking at matronly floral curtains, a dull beige area rug, and a very un-girly back-and-white framed photo of the Civil War that we never managed to take down.

Simple or Elaborate for a Toddler Bedroom?

Disney Princess Bedroom from Rooms to Go

A mom in The Cafe is thinking about buying this bed, plus a coordinating princess dresser not shown, for her 3 year old daughter. There were plenty of drools over the bed, with one mom saying that she'd sleep in that!

But the post quickly lead to a discussion on whether simple and classic is better than elaborate and themed when it comes to toddler bedrooms.

"You can't guarantee she will love that bed forever," said one mom. "My two girls went through the princess phase, but now it's over. I would hate to get such an expensive bed and have them grow out of it."

So, which one would you pick for your daughter? An ornate bedroom like above ...

Or a simple one like below ...
