What are some cheap meal ideas to feed a family of five?

I am so sick of my normal meals LOL I dont have a lot of money to spend on groceries this week. Probably like $50 for 5 of us. And dont tell me mac and cheese. I really want some new good recipes. We eat the same things over and over and over and over.

  • A favorite of ours is chili chicken pasta topper. For a family of 5 (like we are) I use 2-3 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or canned chicken if you want), 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, any pasta of your choosing, garlic powder and chili powder to taste, and 2 cans of water (from the soup). Then I make the sauce and pour it over the pasta. It was a Campbell's recipe and doesn't cost a whole lot. You can use leftover chicken or even canned.

  • Consider this cheap and easy casserole... for a family of five you might wan't to double it, but it's tasty, easy, and cheap regardless.
    1 package (7 1/4 oz) mac and cheese (I know... ;)
    1 lb ground beef
    1 can (14 1/2 oz) Italian-style stewed tomatoes
    1/4 tsp oregano
    1/4 tsp basil
    Shredded cheddar cheese to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees (Optional, can be a skillet dinner.) Prepare mac and cheese omitting butter. Meanwhile, brown meat and drain. Add undrained stewed tomatoes and spices, mix well. Bring to a boil. Add mac and cheese to meat mixture. Spoon into a 9-inch baking dish. Top with cheese. Bake about 10 minutes, until cheese is melted and casserole is heated through.
This is a great comfort food! Get a cheap French or Italian bread from the store, toast it in the oven, and add greenbeans or something and you've got a great meal.

  • -meat balls or meat patties, serve it with spinach and taters.

-home made spaghetti sauce: fry some bolognia (dice it up) with onions, then add A LOT(!) of ketchup to it, also add some water... and a pinch of sugar. (no its not getting sweet, but it takes away the sour part of the ketchup). try if u need to add some salt or pepper. boil some pasta and voila u have a cheap meal. my daughter loves that by the way.. and i do too... my grandma taught me how to make that.
