What can I expect after my water breaks?

I didn't feel anything...and I didn't care too much because I was 8 cent dialated with no epidural it was the last thing on my mind

In my situation, after they broke my water the contractions got much more intense. I don't know if its the same for everyone...

I was one of those rare people where my water broke before I started dilating. The contractions really didn't get uncomfortable until after they started pitocin b/c I wasn't dilated when I arrived at the hospital. I wish you all the luck, but every womens experience is different.

Yes of course there is going to be pain. Honey, this is not an easy process. Your body will begin the process of squeezing a 6-8 lb. baby out... not fun... not easy. With some people the process is a lot faster than others. You can expect alot of people bothering you... no rest and then once the baby comes no rest and no sleep for a good while. Sorry.

your contractions usually start before your water breaks. "The fact of the matter is that, for only about 13% of women, their water will break before going into labor" you will know it's time to go to the hospital when your contractions are about 5 minutes apart, i'd say =] I went sooner than that though because my hospital was far away :(

Your water may not break until later on in the game....
You should have contractions first..those contractions are what helps your water to break. For me I didn't feel pain...just lot;s of pressure and I felt like I had to poop. I know, TMI and odd but I wish someone had told me when I was preggo!! Go to the hospital right away if your water breaks or when the contractions are about 5 min. apart if it hasn't yet. Try not to waste your time worrying...you will know!

Let me point out that only 30% of 'waters' break by themselves. Majority of the time they need to be broken for you. If your waters break when you are standing up you will likely only experience a wee trickle as the babys head will drop into the birth canal and trap the fiuid inside, if you go and lay down there is less pressure from the babies head (gravity) and you will experience a leak. You can feel Pain before ...Your water breaks Then after it intensifys, But some differ and dont feel pain after, for a couple of hours,

I was induced so I don't know if it's the same if your water breaks on it's own. But when I got dilated to an 8, they burst my waters and then my contractions went from about 30 sec in-between to literally back-to-back with about 2 seconds in between. That was with petocin though, so the contractions were literally unbearable after they broke my water.
