  • It doesn't hurt but it's not comfortable either, basically they squish your boobs as much as they can.

  • I just had my first mammogram two weeks ago and it did not hurt at all. There was just a very slight amount of pressure on my boob. The only real uncomfortable part was when my shoulder was kind of pressed up against the machine. I was terrified of having my first one. You hear such horror stories! But it was nothing! I would gladly take 10 mammograms over a pap smear any day!
    You'll do fine.

  • Yes I have had one every year sence I was 40. It's not painful, more like pressure. They squish your breast between 2 plastic plate type things. It's uncomfortable, and it does not last that long. It's like getting a PAP smear. You don't like it, but it has to be done.

  • It may hurt, but it isn't unbearable, and it isn't for very long. It is not embarrassing. The techs have done it many times before I know exactly what they are doing. Usually you are in a thin gown that they let you keep draped over the other side. It only takes about 5 minutes at most for each side. Then they have you wait until they are sure the pictures came out well. Sometimes there is a doctor who reads it right then and can ask for more if something is questionable. Sometimes you are just told to call your doctor for the results. It is important to get them.
