Can I drink caffeine when I'm pregnant?

I have never been big on coffee but *love* coke. So I limited myself to one can of coke every other day. My dr said I could drink it daily just not more than one 'glass'. How much, if any, did you have while pregnant?

  • I had to drink a can of coke everyday to keep from throwing up. If your doctor has no problem with it, then you shouldn't worry.

  • I tried to cut down with my first 3. When I got pregnant with #4 I told my new OB I had cut back. He asked why? He had just finished an internship at Duke University where he reviewed studies regarding caffeine intake and baby development & childhood issues. He said the study found no links between anything related to baby development, adhd, hyper activity. IQ etc. He said as long as I didnt overdo caffeine there wasnt a problem, but it would have to be realllllllly overdoing it like 20 cups of coffee a day. He said thats true of ANYONE though not just pregnant women. So enjoy your coke.

  • I didn't. I had 3 miscarriages and caffeine has been linked to miscarriage, so I cut out all non-necessary possibly risky stuff. A lot of women keep drinking it and have no problem at all, but I just was not willing to take any risk. I personally prefer caffeine free drinks over caffeinated anyway.

  • I limited myself but I didn't eliminate it completely. I read before that you just don't want to have large amounts of caffeine which was defined by six or more servings a day, but coffee counted as two servings.
