Are bloody stools a sign of a food allergy?

my son has recently started babyfood and his most recently tried food was sweetpotatoes. This was the day before yesterday that we started them, he didnt eat any babyfood yesterday, and hasnt today either. Yesterday his stools were... sweetpotato colored. This morning, they were kinda orange, but also looked a lil bloody... he has no other symptoms, doesnt act like he's in pain, is this a food allergy? What else should I look for? If not, what else does bloody stools mean? Im not entirely postive its blood, but Im pretty sure.

  • As you try different food, his poop will turn that color. And if you feed a lot of carrots and sweet potatoes (orange) not only will the poop change, their skin can turn orangish, to! LOL

The it and if it is blood, call the doctor.

But changing to the color of the food is normal....

  • My dd had bloody stools at 2 months and we found out that she has a milk allergy. But what you're seeing might not be blood. If it happens again take that diaper into the doctor and they can test to see if it's blood.

  • As said above, with different foods comes different color poop it is quite normal. If you notice blood then be sure to contact your doctor.
For food allergies signs/symptoms you should ask your doctor- or check out WebMD - they have tons of information.

  • what a coincidence! We both started our sons on sweet potatoes on the same day. I also wondered if my son was alergic to them because he had loose stools for 2 days after that, light brown and very mushy. Today was my 4th day feeding him the sweet potatoes and besides the mushy poop there haven't been any other side effects, so I think it is just from having a new food.
