How can I learn how to crochet?

I can do the chain but that is boring! How do I turn the chain in to a scarve or at least a row or two?

  • There are very good beginner books to help you with that, Walmart has some very cheap one that are very good. Basically you will take your needle insert in the next chain put yard over needle and pull and you keep doing that and at the end turn and start over. Count your chains. Somethings you may need to add an extra chain to turn, but most patterns will tell you.

  • Although I don't mind paying $ for bks or lessons, people will help you too. For ex., simply take yarn and your hook (Sz. J is a comfortable sz for beginners). Either have your "chain" made or be able to make your "chain" quickly. Some might prefer to make their own, so be prepared! Even try Joann's or Michaels. When you pull out your "chain", they might even fight to see who will show you the next step. Please understand, the next step is also the "worst" step when starting a crochet can easily become discouraged on "the next step" because you are still dealing with your "chain" stitch. It does get easier once you have created your 2nd or 3rd row tho.  It's also easier to see your next stitch. So, take a book out at the library...try "the next step" then  have someone show it to you...all free :)
