  • Animal shelters & pounds.

You're spending a small fracion of the cost of 'buying' a dog --- they come complete with their shots, sterilization, full medical exam, and sometimes even micro-chipping & free/discount training... and most importantly -- you're saving a life. :-)

  • The best place to get a dog is from a rescue! Saving a dog's life is the best way to go. If you want a pure breed dog, find the pure breed rescues in your area. I got my handsome little pomeranian from a rescue and he has been greatful ever since!!!

  • I have adopted from craigslist and the local human shelter. In the past I have purchased 2 dogs from breeders. I have gotten older and would rather help a helpless animal that needs a second chance. They are not pure breed, but are the best dogs I have ever owned. Good Luck

  • I got mine from a friend of dh who breeds. He gave him to me for free. Otherwise I would have gone to the pound or a rescue. I wasn't planning on buying a dog, but since he was free, I took him!

  • I decided on the type of dog I wanted then looked for a reputable breeder. I will NEVER support indiscriminate breeding by buying from a pet shop and they get their puppies from puppy mills and backyard accidents. (The more they sell, the more they breed.) Getting a dog from a shelter is a nice thought, but you never know what you are getting, how big the dog will be or what he is like in terms of temperament or how he has been treated in the past that may make them act in some way undesireable.

  • Check the paper, and search online if your wanting purebred, because you will want to get it from a good breeder. If you don't care about the breed too much try a shelter or go online to some sites :)
