Can I throw my own shower?

My parents live out of town and everyone else is too busy to plan one nor would I ask them to. Is it ok to throw your own party? or is that absolutely inconsiderably rude? This is my first child and not a whole lot of my family even knows I am pregnant. and all my friends are my age and in college and out partying and could care less.

  • Just plan it yourself and put your mothers name on the invite so it looks like she planned it!! I did not intentionally plan my own baby shower but I am such a controller that I picked out everything decided the time, made the food, and did the decorations!! My mothers and aunts name where on the invite to who was throwing it but it was basically all me!!!

  • I never threw my own. I know traditionally it is supposed to be thrown for you. I guess in your situation it would be ok to do though. With my 4th I didnt have a shower. I had bought most everything on my own and then when he was born family and friends came over and gave gifts, cooked food etc.

  • I don't think it is... After all, I'd rather plan my own than not have one. Also, get your SO to help you. He can do special things as if it wasn't get you throwing it yourself. Also, I think it's better to just do it b/c of the pictures and fun memories!

  • Its 2009! Besides, a baby shower is suppose to be a celebration for a new baby...I don't think it really matters who throws it. Everyone knows its to honor the baby and of course, at the same time, the new parents might get some gifts...FOR THE BABY! Every baby deserves to be celebrated, regardless of whos idea it is...right?! Congrats!

  • I'm pretty much running my baby shower lol! bc If I don't people will be left out. My mom dosnt know all my friends and I don't want anyone to be left out. My baby shower is this Saturday... YAY! I agree have hubby help if he can.... But don't be ashamed... People who say no to running your own baby shower probably have a lots of help with family and friends and don't understand...

  • My sister-in-law is planning our baby's shower... but has included us in the detailing. I don't think it matters who throws the shower, because as jdrae said above, EVERY baby deserves to be celebrated!

An easier idea though: we're doing more of a couples shower, a relaxed bbq kind of thing, so that no one gets excluded. Even my husband. He has invited his buddies, because most of them are dads and there's no reason not to let him have some insights, fun and advice too!
