  • 15. (Maybe some mascara or some cover-up if she has a blemish - that's it)

Because a 13 year old had no business running around making herself look like she could get into a bar. Because they already grow up too fast as it is. And because that was the age that my dad made me be before I could wear make-up :)

  • I think when they are in 5th grade they start playing with it, and sixth as well. I don't believe in going all out, but don't think a lil eyeshadow, and lipstick is going to hurt anything. I have just let my daughter do as she pleases in that area. Alot of it depends on when there friends start doing it. But I think when she is ready she will let me know and I will tell her what she can and can't have. I think it is different with each girl. If it makes them feel better about themselves why not. Obviously you don't have to let them go to extremes with it, but a little shadow and lipstick isn't going to hurt. Plus if they play with it for a while they will figure out what is to much instead of being 16 and not knowing the first thing and looking like a clown. But that is just my opinion.

  • When they start high school and that is only with lip gloss and than it depends on her complexion. If she looks sick, she may need color. We need to teach our girls that less is more when it comes to makeup.

  • I think I will be ok with lipgloss around 12-13. Full make up probably about 15.

  • I think 15 or 16. Maybe take her to one of those dept store makeup counters, one of the ladies can show her how to look natural and not too made up.

  • I don't think girls ever need to wear makeup. I never did. I don't own a single bit of make up and wouldn't know how to put it on if I did have some so my girls will probably never wear it. I won't buy it for them (other then lip gloss which I occasionally get for my 8yo to play with...she usually loses it after a week, lol). If they want to wear it they'll have to buy it themselves which will be hard since we don't give an allowance and then they will have to find someone to teach them to put it on. If they really want to wear it (hopefully I will have some kind of influence and they won't want to) I'd probably wait until they were in high school so 14 and only a little bit.

  • Like justanotherjen, I don't wear makeup and I never have so even if my daughter does want to, it's not like I can show her how to properly apply it! If she chooses to try it on her own, she is going to have to wait until she is around 16. My husband and I both firmly agree on that. His niece started wearing it when she was like 12, and he was disgusted by it. By the time she was 13, she looked at least 16. To me, that's just asking for trouble.

  • I was 13 when I wore make up: lip gloss, eye shadow, mascara and some blush. It didn't make me boy crazy, a poor student, or want to walk into a bar. It did cause me to have to wake up a few minutes earlier so I could do my hair and make up. Looking back in old pictures, other than the lip gloss, I can't even tell I was wearing any. I think that chapstick for a small child is no big deal. My son loves flavored chapstick. Painted nails a light shade is also fine. I can see how in middle school I would be okay with lip gloss, a little eye shadow and mascara. Perhaps some blush. A girl is going to be boy crazy with or with out the make up. I know some very conservative women by the way who could use lessons on how to apply their garish painted on face. When tastefully done, no worries. When looking like your wearing a decorated cake....perhaps some help is needed.
