We picked out baby names but aren't telling people until after the birth. Is this rude?

My husband find out what we are having in about 5 weeks. We have already picked out names for a boy and a girl. Our family keeps asking and we tell them that we dont want to say anything till we know what we are gonna have and that we want out 3 year old to tell everyone. I think it will be cute if she tells then BOY or GIRL and what the name is... But they get all moody and act like we are hiding stuff from them. They feel like they have a say in the name if its something they dont like. Well i feel that im the pregnant one, its my husbands and my choice to keep the name a secret till we know for sure what we are having and they they we are being rude. Do any of you keep it a surprize?

  • With so few surprises in this life I say you go girl! Don't reveal until you and your husband are ready to. I think keeping the names secret until the baby is born is a beautiful thing to do.

  • We did, especially with our son. There was a lot of pressure to give him a family name, but we didn't want to. So, hubby was in charge of naming him. He gave out fake names left and right, knowing full well what he wanted to name our son. He didn't even tell ME the actual real name until I went on maternity leave.

  • well if they want to act like that i wouldn't tell them a damn thing til the baby was born. see how they like that lol i told my mother what we were going to name the baby when i was pregnant and she made all kinds of faces and said it was ugly she didn't like it. oh well we named her that and it fits her perfectly. her name Bailey Shea

  • I think it's going to be a fun surprise and your family just needs to quit being uptight about it. Don't worry about what they say because you are still going to do it anyway right? Let the suspense kill em. :)

  • my friend named hers Bailey And Hailey and my hubby like riley so i kinda put them together. Never heard it before and then after she was born my new boss had a neice names Brailey and my dentisit cleaning lady had a daughter names Brailey.. I hear it all the time now..... well not ALL THE TIME but its cute i love it!

  • No, I didn't keep it a secret, but its certainly your right to do that. There are a ton of people who don't say anything til birth because people are so pushy and rude about thinking they have a say in the name. Sounds like your family already has that thought too. I have been going through crap with my family too because I'm not going to allow anyone in my hospital room while I deliver and I think both our families are being rude by being so pushy and not respecting our wishes.   • isn't that they way it always goes my oldest is seventeen i named her miranda never heard it while i was pregnant with her now she goes to skool with like three other mirandas

  • I did with my kids. Especially my daughter. My family kept insisting we told them but we kept it a secret all thru the pregnancy. I remember there was a time when an argument came up with my family over that, and we decided to throw them off by giving them totally different random name, they bought it! Imagine the surprise on their faces when they saw a weird and unexpected name on the baby's name tag at the hospital! I wanted to be unique with my daughter's name and i didn't want anyone critizising me for it and trying to get me to change my mind about it.
