Is it a waste to throw a 1-year-old a big birthday party?

My son is getting ready to have his first birthday like most moms i want to to be a big bash but everyone keeps tell me not to waste my time on a big party because he is only one and he wont remember it but i just want it to be a good celebration because its a major mile stone for him should i cut the party down or throw a big bash?

FOR SOME REASON EVERYONE SAYS GO BIG! BUT I SAY JUST A FEW FAMILY MEMEBERS THE ONES WHO ACTUALLY COME AROUND ALOT AND BABY. ALOT OF PICTURES AND SOME BUBBLES,BALLONS AND OFCOURSE A CAKE FIT FOR UR LIL ONE. IF U GO BIG U ARE WASTEING MONEY CAUSE THE CHANCES OF THE BABY REMEMBERING IT ARE SLIM TO NONE.LOL SO SAVE SOME MONEY AND GO SMALL. HOPE U HAVE AGREAT TIME!!!!!!!

A celebration that is really for your memories & both of your enjoyment isn't a bad thing. Just don't go overboard (spending more than you can afford) & don't over-stimulate him by making it too long or having too much going on.

We're going BIG! I realize the boys won't remember it, so it's really for us and an opportunity for our friends and family to spend time with them. Some of them haven't seen the boys for a long time. Also, we'll be taking lots of pictures. Someday, they will realize just how many people wanted to be there to say "Happy Birthday! We're glad you are here!"

I say small...not only will they not remember it but most one year olds aren't comfortable around large groups of people they don't know well. We had close friends and familys that new baby and that baby felt comfortable with and it went great. Also remember that after a couple hours baby will be worn out...if you go all out it will proably last a lot longer that that.

I say go BIG. My granddaughter who is now 8 (8 1/2 if you ask her), has pictures from her first birthday. I made sure she had a picture taken with each family. Some of these are Great Aunt and Uncles. Matter of fact, she has one of her GREAT Great Aunt who passed away in 2007. This is important for her later on. I wish I had pictures of everyone with me at my first birthday party!!!!

My son is turning 1 on the 24th. We are having a party, absolutely more for us than him! It'll be our friends and family and people who don't see him often to see how he's grown. I want pictures to show him when he's older. It's not going to be huge, but not just family. I know its more for us, so we're inviting who WE want to be there! He doesnt care, anyway!

We had decent parties for both our boys 1st b-days. Keep the cost low but still try to include everyone. It's definitely more for the parents but both my boys endjoyed theirs and still love looking through photos of them. Good luck with whatever you decide and just relax and enjoy it. :)
