Do you have any tips for getting my home organized?

I'm not the most organized person in the mommy world and sometimes it drives me nuts! I really need some tips on organizing the home office, my daughters room and the kitchen. I feel like my house looks's kind of hard to explain, because I don't even know the problem LOL. If any of you can offer any specific organizing tips that work really good for you, that would be really awesome. Thanks!

  • The first step is to this room by room otherwise you will be totally overwhelmed! How do you do this? Do you use it? Do you LOVE it? If not...get rid of it. You have to be ruthless in the decluttering process. You cannot organize clutter. If you aren't sure about something...set aside a specific box for those things, then if after a month, you haven't missed them or used them...get rid of them. A great site to help with the whole process is She has great tips & rooms are broken down into zones. Each week, along with her, you work on a specific zone. She gives you missions & assignments. Helps you get yourself set up on a morning and bedtime routine (which are so incredibly helpful!). I also belong to the group on CM called fluttering flybabies.

  • try to make it so there is a designate space for everything. i am not the most organized person in my own bedroom but when it comes to te rest of the house i have a spot for evrything that way when i am cleaning up i dont have just a bunch of junk laying around... and if you have lots of junk get like a basket that you can hide away for all those little extras that you dont knw what to do with. hope that helps.

  • Decorative wall mounted magazine rack/document holder. Make a receiving area by your front door. Hooks for coats and bags, maybe with a shelf and small basket system above to hold phones, wallets and keys. Whatever you need to quickly put away when you come home so you avoid the kitchen table becoming the receiving area. Of course you'll need a place for toys. I love baskets they are great for quickly straightening up.

  • These are great for entry way organization:

The baskets are great for holding keys and wallets and cell phones, and the racks hold the coats of course.

Another site for some great kitchen organization tips is

  • We go along with the flylady websites & zones of the week. There is a lot of support and tips in the group. We clean together & motivate each other. I used to live among clutter, I had a ton of stuff I was holding on to for fear I might need it...I started weeding through it...I got rid of a TON of stuff. Now it takes me much less time to clean my house b/c I am not trying to organize & move clutter around, what I did keep, I can keep a better handle on b/c there's not as much! I hope this helps!
Kitchen-get rid of duplicate items, get rid of or store seldom used items
DD's room-storage has a great deal on some in the furniture section for girls & boys...they are only $15.95, which is a steal! Baskets, etc. I also added a shower tension rod in my DD's closet to make a 2nd row to hang her clothes on & utlize waisted space

  • In the kids room we put their toys in clear plastic bins, the one's with parts and pieces and they all have their own bin. The kids can see what's inside and most of the time will put them back before playing with something else.
