How can I help relieve constipation in a child?

I have a 4 1/2 year old daughter who was recently sick. diagnosed with a double ear infection. She had a fever for 3 days which I kept a very careful eye on. That's not our problem now. She's on antibiotics (Augmentin) for the infection and on the nebulizer as well because she's also begun to develop something which sounds like a regular cold. The problem started when she had the fever. she wasn't eating therefore she wasn't using the bathroom much either. She was drinking water much more than normal, but despite that she's now very, very constipated. Her Dr. said it's probably as a result of the fever/infection and gave us glycering suppositories. they help sometimes, but not all that much either. Until we can check in with a different Dr., does anyone have any home remidies that will help, other than prunes which she won't eat?
May end up back at the Dr. this week, or worse a hospital.

  • try putting kyro syrupe in her milk or juice. it does work and it wont hurt her its just syrupe. I used it when my son was little infact im pregnant and have been having the same issue so i even resorted to drinking hot tea with kyro syrupe and it works well. good luck and hope she feels better. you only need to put about a teaspoon in her cup and do it once a day till you have results usually results happen fast.

  • Anything with Fiber in it, my son has serious constipation issues because all my doctors told me I was crazy and failed to just do a damn ex-ray to prove that I was right.. long story,
Anyways they have some Fiber one drink mixes and granola bar things, I think they have that yougurt and cheese that are not fiber one but like...shoot I can't rememner but ti is supposed to help regualte the body in like 7 days, those things might help, just pump her full of fiber.... Oh and Miralax is a safe option if you are okay with a laxative...

  • Make her apple juice from frozen and don't add all the water. She'll poop in no time. If that doesn't work a little milk of magnesia should be gentle but do the trick.

  • well we reciently went through a like 2 week stretch where all 3 of my kids were sick and couldnt eat my 3 year old didnt eat for like 4 days and afterward was real constipated too there is yougart and some cheese that has natural things in it to keep you regular and i just gave her that with in 2 days she was back to normal or try 100% apple juice a lot of people grab juice and dont look at the label if you are getting the apple juice for constipation make sure it is 100% or it wont work as good and this might sound stupid but caffiene is a stimulant and may help try a little regular tea if she doesnt drink it all th time a little caffiene will just make her hyper and may help her go good luck and when my one daughter was about a month old we had to give her the glycerine things too i know how bad that sucks
