When did you start your maternity leave?

I am planning on staying until I go into labor or at least until 2/27/09 which is a day before my due date, but I am getting so tired of coming in every day. I have 4 weeks 6 days left or 34 days lol (on the count down) I feel so worn down:(

  • I waited until my due date too. I got worn down, but I wanted as much time after with my babies as I could have before returning to work.

  • I left when I started getting paid for it. My state pays disability for maternity leave for 4 weeks before your due date and for up to 12 weeks after. So I left 4 weeks before my dues date and went back 8 weeks after I had my son. I probably could have worked right up to my due date especially since he came right ON his due date, but I was too afraid something would happen at work and I didn't want everyone talking about "that time the pregnant girl _____" lol.

  • With my first, I worked up until 2 weeks before. We were on a year-round schedule and she was born while I was off-track, so it just worked out.

With my second, I took off 4 weeks before and stayed off for 8 weeks after (c-section) which lead to the next off-track time, so 12 weeks off after. It was nice!

  • It depends on the type of work you have. I am a stylist and I used to work on my feet for like 8 hrs a day untill that landed me in the hospital at 27wks b/c I was having contractions. I tried to work as long as possible untill the pain was so unbearable I couldn't get any work done. They weren't paying me sit around in pain. So I technically went out at about 30 wks b/c I was at risk for pre-term labor. If I were still in this profession with the second one I would probably not wait untill the last minute either. Some work is just too strenuous.
