I am NOT talking about getting drunk or drinking often or even in the first trimester. I'm talking about having 1/2 glass of red wine or maybe 1/2 a beer, towards the end of pregnancy to relax, help you get to sleep, maybe even to relax during labor. Would you have a SMALL bit of alcohol late in your pregnancy? Do you feel like it is too risky? Or do you feel it is a small risk, and is worth it if it will help mom rest or relax to have an easier labor?
The medical community has not been able to determine with any certainty exactly how much if any alcohol is safe for unborn babies. Because of that, I personally think it's not worth the risk. There are so many other ways to relax that do not pose any danger to the unborn, I think I'd steer clear.
