  • One litter box for each cat in the house + one. We have 2 cats so we have 3 litter boxes.

We use Scoop Away litter because it smells ok and clumps so ALL the pee and poop can be scooped out. We clean them daily to keep the house from stinking up.

  • Use clumping litter and clean it at least once a day by removing all clumped litter and solid waste. We use whatever litter is on sale. I went through many plastic litter scoops until I found a metal one that has lasted a long time.

  • I have two large male cats. I have always used a large storage tub to place there litter box in. I cut hole in half of the lid. Its the best thing. You dont have the mess or the smell. My cats are to big for a covered litter box and when they were smaller it still was a mess with litter all over the floor. I use fresh step cat litter and clean the box out every day, two days at the most. We seldom have a smell problem :).

  • Bmat Does the metal scoop stay cleaner? My plastic one gets stuff stuck on it. Kinda gross.

  • The kitty litter box we use is called a booda clean step. It has sort of 'stairs" that curve around into the litter area to keep the litter in the box and not on the carpet. It is supposed to help with the smell. As a rule you should have one litter box per cat plus one. Put them in a place where kitty feels comfortable, secure, and with an entrance and an exit. Scoopable littler is the best because it clumps the pee up so you can get it all out. Get the cat fixed that helps with the smell and risk of spraying.

  • the metal scoops are easier to clean off than the plastic scoops, i have 2 cats and only one box and they do fine with that.I scoop ever other day, and change the whole box rarely, s I scoop it so cleanly.About once a month I clean out the whole box and scrub the litter pan itself, just to keep bacteria down.If you scoop every day or every other, it is amazing how easy it is to maintain.Do not bother with the old fashioned kind, tho some love it,IMO it is just a waste of money and it smells horridand you ahev to change it more.

  • I've had cats my entire life. And the best litter I've ever found is Swheat Scoop. It has absolutely no smell and it absorbs the odors almost instantly.
