How can I keep hardwood floors clean and shiny?

Ive tried amonia, I have tried vinegar and water which makes it shine..but I need a fast and simple way of cleaning.. I clean them but they are still dirty due to so much traffic.. I will take any ideas..

  • Be careful with ammonia - that is really toxic stuff! I started using Basic H2 - 1 tsp in a gallon of water - it really picks up the dirt.

  • My friend uses Murphy's and it get really clean and pretty shiny but she has super old floors and i don't know if there's a way to get her floors to shine again. heheheee

  • Vinegar and water is really simple, IMO. If it is sealed then you can get one of the shark steam mops and give it a whirl. Then, use an oil like jojoba (really a wax so I think it'd work great) to make it shine.

  • Yep! I used Murphy's Oil Soap for deep cleanings, but the Swiffer Wet Jet with solution for wood floors works great for "in between" cleanings and touch ups.
