  • I haven't had one and I would never since there is a chance of a MS. Hope things go well for you.

  • I had one at the beginning of January. It wasn't that bad to be honest. It is a little painful, I'm not going to lie, but not as bad as you would think. I had to have it done because of abnormal AFP test. I was very freaked out and panicky at the time and I think thats why I felt it was worse than what it really was. Afterwards you will cramp for a day or two, and the area where they stuck you w/ the needle is tender. not too bad. Just take it easy for the first couple days after and you should be ok. Good luck to you!

  • They are a high risk test, can hurt, something can go wrong and cause a miscarriage.
Also they are not 100% accurate.
I would only have it if they are thinking or found something is wrong and only need a second opinion versus getting it since it can be offered just because your pregnant.

  • I had one done with my last pregnancy, also because of an abnormal AFP. It was kinda crazy for me, because she had to go through the placenta, as he was positioned weird. It didn't hurt, but I had a nice big contraction right afters, and his heartbeat dropped. So I had to lie there for 10 minutes, while they were monitoring him, and I had to come back the next day for another u/s to make sure he's alright. Well, needless to say, he was doing great. BUT with this pregnancy, I opted out of all the genetic screenings, it was just too much stress than it was worth, really.

  • Do not do it unless a test can back that has good percentage rates over the results that makes you feel it's worth the risk.

  • GermanMami, I agree w/ opting out for the test a second time around. I was not aware of the false abnormal tests w/ my first pregnancy or w/ this one. If I would've known, I wouldn't have gotten it done. The stress was just way too much!

  • I had one just because i was pregnant and wanting the best for baby, later that night i lost the baby so, i will never have one again some are not worth the risks or due to the false results.
I did not have one with my second baby and all came back fine and delivered a healthy baby.

  • Wanted to add i was in my later years when i had the test, the doctor made me believe it was best since i could have a defective baby,if i only would of went with my feelings i would have two healthy babies instead of one from such a test.
