Should doctors perform in vitro on a woman with six children?

Choice is choice. You cant limit how kids a woman chooses to have if you want to say a woman has a right to choose to abort.

Who draws the line?

Morally, there is nothing wrong with it. It is the dr.'s moral responsiblity to take care of his patient and not do something that is going to harm her. If he had known that it would result in octuplets I think it would be a different question.... of her sanity!

I don't think there's anything MORALLY wrong with it. I think it's bad science.

Heres the thing. I have more then a couple of kids and have been TOLD by family members who are liberals I am morally wrong for having multiple children when they have chosen not to because they feel the world is over populated, or they dont want to pay for school funding, or whatever. Now I pay for my kids, we arent on state aid of any kind, and I chose to have my children just like they chose not to have kids or to abort their kids. Its a choice. Telling me Im morally wrong for having children is really stupid. Yet I see more and more on the subject while they scream for reproductive choice for women. Choice is choice no matter which way you cut it. I chose to have children, they didnt. Thats my right, just as its their right to abort their kids.

I think in part the criticism is that fertility clinics implant so many embryos because it boosts their success rates when realistically it is not good for a mom to carry octuplets and is not good for a baby to be an octuplet (these babies are doing well, but statistically the risks for moms and babies in multiple births are much higher for moms and babies in singleton births.) It is morally wrong for her to want a big family? No, I don't think so. It is shady ethics, medically speaking, to inject so many embryos in an IVF cycle that you risk an outcome that is very bad for both mom and babies? I think you could make that argument quite convincingly.

I think it is wrong especially with it sounding like she is a single mother . It states that she lives with her parents . To me this is so wrong and if I was that doctor who did the invetro and knowing she had 6 other kids I would have not done it at ALL .

This is no where that it says she is single, and you ever think why she lives with her parents? Maybe so her family and friends can help? That is what family is for and it's no one else's place to say otherwise or assume otherwise without having FACTS. I don't think anything is wrong with it morally. They implant so many because usually they don't take. This is a chance and both Dr and patient know so going into it. They survived and the mother and THAT is a blessing!

The doctor did nothing wrong at all. He had an obligation to take care of her and do what she paid him for. (where did she get the money? *scratches head*) THE MOTHER is the one that needs some help here. She has 6 other children, NO father, NO income, and lives in the basement of her parents home with 14 kids? Thats just not right. Everyone deserves life, but these kids deserve better than that. They deserve enough room to live in and deserve a father. Those two things are the only things questionable in my mind. They rest is just hear-say.
