  • Use Picasa!!!

I know there is probably a more elegant way to do it but I use free Google Picasa and works like a charm. They have a graduated tint option which may work really well.

Let me know if it works for you!

  • Depends on what editing program you use. I have Photoshop CS2 but if you have a photoshop program that utilizes layers it's pretty simple.
Open your photo (do any necessary adjustments). Make a duplicate layer of the photo. Now working on the duplicate layer convert the image to B&W. Now pick the eraser tool and start erasing the portions you want to be in color. Erasing those sections will bring the color of the original (first) layer forward. Be sure to zoom in pretty close so you're acurate. When you're finished highlight (select) the first original layer and bring up the hue/saturation adjustment box and bring the saturation down a few notches to soften the color. You don't want bright obnoxious color on B&W it's too distracting and takes away from the finished image. When that's done merge your layers and save :)

  • Dude - we have Photoshop at home because my DH has to use it for work - it completely intimidates my tiny brain but I am SO SO SO going to try what you said.....

I love Picasa for the albums and the ease and the facebook integration and the collages but what you wrote 1) completely made sense and 2) is very exciting.

    Thank you!

  • If you have any other questions about it feel free to message me. Photoshop can be intimidating at first but it's actually pretty simple and as long as you don't save over the original there's no worries about messing up or loosing the original photo.

  • Adobe Photoshop is one you have to pay for. BUT you can go to their website and download a free 30 day trial version. Paint.net is a free editing program, but I've never used it so I can't say how it is.

  • Paint.net is an awesome freebie program and you don't have to be online to access it whenever you want. I've used the program for almost 2 years, now, and love it! You can definitely achieve the look you're requesting in Paint.Net.
