My doctor told me that is was perfectly fine as long as the place is well ventilated (open all the windows) and just don't paint for long periods at a time. I was still a little worried about painting while pregnant so we bought the low VOC paint and it made me feel a little better. It's also good for after the baby comes, the paint won't give off the toxic fumes.
I don't know of any paint that would be safe to use while pregnant. All I could really say is call your doctor and see if he/she knows of any paint. If they don't you could always see if it's ok to paint with regular paint with a mask on.

I always heard no painting so you should just ask your doctor to make sure
I don't think it matters what kind of paint you buy, but I think they do sell some with less odor than others.
Like the PP's said, as long as the room is VERY well ventilated, everything should be fine. Plus they do sell masks at Lowes or Home Depot so you don't inhale some of the odor.
