Should I paint the outlet covers?

I recently painted the walls in my basement and I was wondering if I should also paint the outlit and light switches to match the walls?

  • My husband painted them in this house we are currently living in. They were ugly, and we couldn't even afford to get new ones when we moved in. So paint them he did!

  • if it was me I would just go buy ones that are the color you want. Since they get used so much it will start chipping I think. Anyways they really aren't that much and would make your life a lot easier!

  • EW..no. Just take the outlet covers off, tape off the trim and paint the walls. Then put the outlet covers back on. Or you can buy new ones if the old ones are not in good condition.

  • I would say no. They get so much use that the paint will start to crack and chip. They are relatively inexpensive (depending on what you want), so if they are really ugly, I would just buy new ones.

  • It doesn't usually look good if you do. I prefer just white switch plates but that's just my opinion.

  • If you don't like the ones you have, if you paint them they will chip really easily, but you can put wallpaper or fabric over them, just cut the material you are using to just a little bigger than the cover, secure it with electrical tape on the back if you are using fabric or just stick the wallpaper on according to directions, fold it thru the holes and around the sides and let dry, make sure you poke the hole thru for the screw. They are cute when you are done and do look better than painted ones.

  • NO if you paint the covers then you will need to paint the actual switches and outlets and that is not a safe thing to do. These are electical components. DON'T SLATHER WET PAINT ON ELECTICAL COMPONENTS! If you don't like the covers then buy new ones. They sell the kind you can put wallpaper inside if you must. I like ivory, but they also make white, black and brown cheap.
