At what age did you first try honey with your toddler?

okay, I know your little one is not supposed to have honey in the first year, but at what age are they safe to have it? at what age did you give your little one things sweetened with honey? or honey itself?

  • After a year is safe, unless you have food allergies in the family. If you do, I would wait till past two.

  • Found this online:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that raw honey not be given to infants under one year of age because of the rare possibility of being infected with the bacteria that causes botulism (Clostridium botulinum). Once a toddler reaches one year old, their digestive system is mature enough to kill any botulism germs

  • After they turn a year is fine. My own daughter was 4 the first time she had it, just because I don't care for it, so I never had it at the house.

  • My son recently had his 1 yr. check-up. I asked the doctor, "Are there any foods that he SHOULD NOT have?" She said, "Honey" and of course anything else that he has shown an inversion to. But, she clearly stated honey and even made mention of things containing it like Honey Nut Cheerios.
