  • my friend made the cutest mailbox for a girl with lacy doiles and hearts. and for her son a space ship out of coffee can and cereal box cardboard covered with tin foil. i always wanted to do fancy things and my daughter was happy to decorate her own shoebox so.... i had to let her go her own way.

  • For my son's kindergarten class I made a mailbox out of a shoe box and construction paper. I decorated the based (box) with Valentine's wrapping paper--little scattered hearts pattern, then made the curved top with several pieces of red construction paper to add thickness and make it firm (kind of like a covered wagon. Using the shoebox lid, I cut out the red "flag" that lets you know you have mail. And on the sides of the "mailbox" wrote my son's name in "fancy" lettering--but you can also use letter stickers OR use a large, bold fancy font in word in a coordinating color, print, cut and glue to the box.

  • Everyday items around your house can be turned into cute Valentines boxes. You could cover a shoe box, large oatmeal container, tissue box, or other container with aluminum foil or colored paper. Your kids can decorate the wrapped container with Valentine stickers, cut out hearts, paper lace doilies, etc. One year one of my kids' teachers gave each kid a white paper lunch bag. She had a table covered with stickers, lace, ribbon, hearts, doilies, etc. She gave them so much time to decorate their bags. They turned out very cute & they loved decorating them. We have to make a box for my 7 yr old daughter's party & we are going to cover & decorate a Christmas box that we got this past Christmas. It is the perfect size & shape.
