What if my doctor wants to induce me but I don't want to?

So i saw my doc yesterday and she stipped my membranes. Im 37 weeks and 4 days im dilated 2 cent. and 80& effaced. Has anyone gotten there membranes stipped this early??? And she said if i dont go into labor soon that she will induce me a week before my due date because thats what she does with her patinets. idk im confused this is my first and havent had anything wrong with me through out my whole pregnancy just UTI's. Im 18yrs young :) and would rather go into labor SOON then get induced just because thats what she does with her patients and this is my second doctor i would not want to change to a different one this late.

  • You don't actually have to have your doctor induce you. Don't show up for the appt. My dr. was going to induce me because I was 2 wks. past my due date and I just didn't show up. lol. He called me and said where are you? (in a demanding voice) I said at home, where are you? HE said at the hospital waiting for you. ...
I said oh "this is my pregnancy and I am not going to be induced, thanks for the call". What could he do come to my house and pick me up. Nope. I went in to labor the next weekend. I didn't want a managed doctors care.
This is your pregnancy, your baby, your life. YOu don't have to do what the doctor tells you. Start taking charge now. NOt later.

  • If there isn't a medical reason for you to be induced and it's just convient for her schedule, i would explain to her that your not comfortable with that and you would rather wait the full 40 weeks. But if the child is in distress or it looks like the baby will be to big to deliver naturally at 40 weeks then i could maybe understand where your doctors coming from.

  • Ok- it is not a big deal to be induced. I was induced with my first at 38 weeks. I had no problems or anything. The doctors sometimes like to do it so things go smoother. I loved being induced with my first because it was more relaxing than those scenes where they mother's water breaks and they are rushing to the hospital only to get stuck having the baby in the back of a cab.

  • Well membrane stripping isn't always effective but seriously? tell your doctor to fuck off. While I understand your want to go into labor now, it is better on the baby to go into labor when the BABY is ready! Your doctor can not FORCE you into an induction, refuse it. Don't go to the hospital until you are in labor. She can not make you get induced. If she induces you know you have over a 50 percent chance of having a c/s! Read the report published at the end of my journal! You have options. OMG. I would never trust an OB that routinely induces like this. I am sorry!

  • I completely agree with celticreverie!!! I was induced with my second child at 39 week and I will NEVER do it again. I was not ignorant about stuff like that then. Nothing bad happened and my baby is just fine, but the pain was 100x worse than with my first when I went into labor on my own. And if you get induced you won't be able to move around at all. They will make you lay on your back in bed b/c you will have an iv. Laying on your back is the most uncomfortable way to be in labor trust me.
