How do you organize coupons?

I have a standard little cloth/red coupon holder. I need a better way, thoughts?

  • I keep the things I buy regularly in the front..and the others in the back. In the middle is paper, hygienne and cleaning products. I go through at the first of each month to get rid of expired coupons... It really is about what works best for you. My friend sorts by dairy, meats, cleaning...etc...that is just way too much hassle to me. However, I only clip coupons for things I regularly buy or new items I want to try. She clips EVERYTHING.

  • I have a regular three ring binder...I bought the sheets that hold baseball cards..and some dividers...the card holder makes it easy to see the coupon and then I divide the sections up:
ie: dairy, cereal, meat, canned goods, fruit, juice etc

  • I have an accordian style coupon holder that I bought yrs ago, that has sections in it (dairy, frozen, canned, cereal, etc.). WIthin those section, I put them in date order so that I use the ones that will expire sooner first. Every week , before I go shopping, as I make my list, I go thru all my coupons, and get the ones I will use ready and attach them to my list.

  • I have the couponizer as well and its great! I use it only for coupons I am taking to the stores, I refill it before my trip when I'm going to multiple stores. It does not hold all of my coupons os I keep my coupon in a large file folder system at home till I get ready to go shopping.

  • I just started using coupons. I put them in a big ol' pile and shove them in my sweater pocket. When I get to the section for, say, kitchen cleaner spray, I sift through the coupons for two minutes until I find the one I need. Then I put that coupon in the other pocket. Start over in the peanut butter aisle.

Yeah, I may need a better system myself. :/

  • I plan my shopping ahead of time, comparing coupons to sales papers. I have like coupons paperclipped together. Then I order them in an envelope according to food section: frozen foods, soup, cereal, etc..... As I use a coupon, I put it in my checkbook so that they are all together at the checkout.

  • I took the advice from and keep them in the flyers like they come in the paper. You write the date on the front. When I go to her site ( is another), it tells the date with a code such as RP for Red Plum. For the most part it leaves me without loose coupons flying around.
