How do I quit smoking now that I'm pregnant?

I just found out that I am pregnant and I really want to stop smoking but its very hard. Especially because my husband smokes and he wont quit. Any suggestions on how to do this. Im having a hard time with this.

  • for some reason i knew i was pregnant and wanted to stop but didn't think i could and then one day i couldn't smoke it made me sick and then boom i was done smoking.

  • I had a hard time quitting when I found out I was pregnant, but I ended up just stopping... My SO doesnt smoke so it was easier but honestly, the only reason I quit is because I was worried about the baby. My sister smoked, alot, while she was pregnant and her son was born on time but he needed help breathing, which the dr said was because she smoked so much. My nephew also had nicotine withdraws, which explains why he was crying ALL THE TIME... that was enough to make me quit, but to be honest, I don't think I have beat the addiction... I still crave cigs all the time, but I refuse to give in... Sorry if this is not very helpful, I know it is very hard to quit. Good Luck

  • My husband just quit smoking after a ten year habit. I nagged and even threatened divorce. Finally he decided to read "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking" by Allen Carr. It took him three days to read and he hasn't smoked since. It has been over a year! He mother and grandmother read the book after he did and both quit. Combined they had over 80 years of smoking together. Several men on his ship have also used it and it worked! Look it up!

  • i dono me and my husband quit cold turkey, thank goodness. it was hard but every time i thought about smoking i thought about what was growing inside of me and i just couldn't face hurting the baby , for my husband well that was just a miracle :D

  • I am a smoker and have been for many years, I'd say about 15yrs. I have tried to quit many times and have never been able to. In the beginning of this pregnancy I continued to smoke, tried to quit by cutting down. Didn't work. One day, at about 5 mos pregnant, I felt extremely guilty and threw out all my smokes, lighters, and ashtrays. I didn't hang around my smoker friends,(pretty much everyone I know), for a couple weeks and I just quit. COLD TURKEY is best...in my oppinion. Cutting down always just gives you an excuse to smoke. Oh yeah....and chew gum!!! I lve, love, LOVE orbit gum! lol...sooooo many flavors and the more you chew the less you wanna smoke and EAT! So...Cold turkey, Stay away from smoking people as much a possibe, throw away parafenelia (sp?), and GUM!!! Hope this helps! Good luck! xoxo

  • I was a smoker and I quit both times I became pregnant cold turkey. My DH was/is a smoker and I told him that he was not allowed to smoke in our home and he should only smoke when I was not around. That was the only time I ever set rules for my DH but it was for the sake of our child. After my second son was born I briefly began smoking again and after a while I quit cold turkey and haven't looked back. If you are able to cut smoking out of your life completely I would suggest you never turn back. The best thing to help you quit would be to always have chewing gum or hard candies with you.   • I took my father in to a doctors appt with me so that the doctor could tell him what he was doing by smoking around me. The doctor told him that every time I inhaled cigarette smoke the babies oxygen was decreases, feeling somewhat like having a pillow held over her face. It was enough to make him quit!

  • the way i got to stop smokeing was i got mouth wash
    and washed my mouth out like 5 times a day
    and when ever i went to smoke the mixture of the mouth wash and the cigg smoke
    tasted so gross and now when ever i think of somking i get the though of the nasty taste
    and dont want to smoke any more

  • I got lucky with that one. I would smoke once maybe twice a day and one day the thought of smoking just made me nauseous (can't spell that sorry). Weeks later I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive and since then the smell of smoke makes me sick. My son is three now, very rarely if i'm stressed or upset I will smoke one, but more often than not it makes me want to throw up. You have to just quit, no matter how hard. Stay away from people that do it and from now on and make your husband smoke outside away from you. Imagine if your baby came out with breathing problems or related issues. Wouldn't you feel horrible knowing that you could be to blame. Your baby deserves to be healthy, think of him/her anytime you feel like smoking. Talk to your doctor, buy a book or look online. Hopefully you will find something to help you.

  • You know its def not easy for some people....my husband still smokes around me but the day I found out 100% sure I was pregnant I quit have not had one since....I think I will never touch another one again.
