Can you get more money if you apply early for financial aid?

Just curious, is it true that if you apply for financial aid early, you get more help? Also, if you've been to school, how much did it cover?

  • I did the same. I filed single mother and it didn't cover much(I didn't make anything either so my income was practically nothing). But I also applied at the last second. I applied early this year.

  • You can get financial aid to cover all of your schooling...it will just be mostly loans. But you can get it all covered. Loans are financial aid, too.

  • I have a federal pell grant and it covers everything, but I am going to a cheap school right now (50 dollars per credit hour) I do it all online through a local community college. The fully online colleges like phoenix and such those are expensive. It just depends on your school and how much it is I guess.

  • I don't think it matters when you apply at all.
I applied for my first year of college and I received a grant that covered about 1/3 of my tuition and the rest was covered in loans.
For my second year application I received no grants and had to receive all loans. All of my tuition and expenses are covered by the loans.
The loans are normally deferred until 6 months after you finish college, but I would suggest paying the interest amount beforehand so the monthly payment amounts are lower.
