What groceries are you allowed to buy with WIC?

Apparently my state, the state We just moved from, and a friend's state are quite different when it comes to WIC items. I want to know if your state is the same or different from mine.

  • I haven't been on WIC since 1998, but I was on it in two different states for 10 years and there wasn't any difference between them.
My daughter has an appointment in April to get on WIC so we'll see if anything has changed in the past 11 years.
I used to get during pregnancy milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, juice, and cereal. My babies got formula after I was done breastfeeding and then they added infant cereal. When they turned one they got everything I got when I was pregnant.
I hear that they now give breastfeeding moms tuna and carrots on WIC.
It's a great program no matter what state you are in or what you get.

  • yes I'm on wic. I get 6 gallons of milk a month, 2lbs of cheese, couple boxes of cereal (choice of life, plain cherios, corn flakes), LOTS of juice, and 2 dozen eggs. It's pretty awesome actually. But I guess after you have the baby, if you breast feed yo'll get carrots and tuna and possible even a breast pump. And if you bottle feed then you'll get formula.

  • When I was pregnant I'd get a gallon of milk, cheese, juice and eggs one month, then another month I'd get 1 and 1/2 gallons of milk, cereal, and juice. They'd switch it up but basically you get: Eggs, Juice, cereal, milk, peanut butter or dried beans.
With a baby on formula they give 9 cans of formula and 3 boxes of infant rice cereal every month.

  • from age 1 on its milk juice, cheese, ceral and peanut butter

if your child is under one and you are breastfeeding they add tune carrots and dried beans/peanut butter you get a choice on this one.

If your not breastfeeding they offer formula but if you need special formula like soy you have to have a doctors note.

It is a great program they will help with a breast pump and car seats, and in my area we get checks to use at farmers market for fresh fruit and veggies in the summer.

I hae had to use it a few times over 11 years and they never treat you badly they are very helpful and offer lots of great info.

  • I'm not on it anymore, but when I was I got the biggest package because I was breastfeeding At one point we were getting 10 gallons of milk a month, cereal, dry beans, peanut butter, eggs, cheese, tuna , fruit juice and veggie juice...i think that is it. It's been a couple years so I can't remember.

When my oldest was born I didn't breastfeed so I didn't utilize it for myself but it really really helped with formula. I think about cans a month. Without WIC we would have had a really really had time.
