Does pasta expire?

I have an opened box of rotini in my cabinet. I do not remember how long it's been since I opened it. It has only been stored in the box. The expiration date has not passed, but is there any way I can tell my looking at the pasta if it's still any good?

  • As long as it's within the expiration date, it's fine. I'll even use it past the expiration date, it doesn't really go bad.

  • Thank you. I wasn't sure. Usually, I store opened pasta in a plastic container, but I must of just closed this box back up and put it in the cabinet. :)

  • Pour it out onto a white or light colored plate and examine it to make sure there are no bugs. Also, it would be a good idea to cook a piece and taste it. I actually had noodles go bad- they had a sour taste.

  • As long as it isn't an egg noodle they chance they will go bad is very, very slim. At worst they may lose a bit of flavor..but they won't hurt you.

  • Trust me, it's fine.. Even if it went over the Ex. date it would be okay. Pasta is STARCH.. Starch doesn't really spoil.
