Can anyone tell me about gymnastics for toddlers?

Does anyone take their tot for tumbling or other activities?

I would love to get my DD into an activity that has her interacting with other kids & grownups. I think she would enjoy tumbling but I dont know anything about it. Like whats the best age for her to go. And if there are other activities out there for 2 year olds.

  • We go to several "Mommy & Me" classes. One is an art class, one is a learn basic ball skills class, and one is a gymnastics class with lots of running around and play. They are all through my city's parks department so you might try there.

Just make sure whatever class you choose is age appropriate and works with your child. We were also in a toddler (18 month to 2.5 years) music class and the teacher expected the kids to sit quietly, sing or clap along, and to leave the little drums she gave them flat on the floor. Oh please! You give a toddler something and expect them not to pick it up?!?! And you expect all the kids to sit quietly and participate for half hour?!?!? When she started getting angry at the toddlers who wouldn't (and couldn't) sit still like she required, we dropped it. My daughter has at least 13 years of sit-still-and-listen school ahead of her; we don't need that now.

  • I took my 2 year old to gymnastics for toddlers. They learned to tumble, to walk a low beam, to bounce low trampoline, like that. It was great for coordination and activity and playing around other children, and it also was a way for him to get used to being out of the house and a start for a classroom situation. If I were you I'd hang around for a few classes to make sure they were absolutely safe and the teacher good around children.

  • At that age, they also offer Creative Movement classes at dance studios. Some are mommy and me and some are just the two year olds for a 30 minute class.
