Is it OK if I don't have goody bags at my toddler's birthday party?

We are having a party for the kids and got short changed by the IRS and did not receive all of our taxes. I can't afford it all. So do you think it is rude or not?

  • I didn't give them at my son's birthday. The kids had plenty of snacks and things to do without goody bags. Nobody seemed disappointed either, I never heard one question about goody bags. I think they are a waste of money. They already have cake, ice cream, chips and sometimes I make hot dogs or pizza. That's more than enough for a b-day. I say don't do it, save the money.

  • I don't think its rude. Some people might though. I mean your throwing a party with (i'm assuming) a ton of fun stuff for kids to do and food , so I don't see why goody bags are a necessity. I mean yes they are nice to give out and nice to receive but only if you can afford it.

  • Not necessarily. If I were you, I would bake some cookies and buy some plastic wrap and curling ribbon. It can be VERY cheap. Then put the cookies in the plastic wrap and tie some of the curling ribbon around the top and curl it. Very inexpensive but you are still having people leave with something.

  • I don't think it's rude necessarily, but it's a nice gesture:)

    You can get 30 bags at the dollar store for a dollar and a bag of candy at walmart for $5.00. You don't have to do much;)

  • I don't even know WHY parents make "goody" bags for birthday parties. It's one of those social things I just don't get, so I'd have to say it's not rude if you don't provide one. Personally, I hate it when my son gets them because it's normally just junk that gets thrown away and it's a waste of the parents' money that these days is harder to come by.

  • I don't believe in goody bags. Birthday parties are about the birthday child. Some people believe that all the children attending should get gifts so they don't feel left out.

  • I always felt guilty for not handing out goody bags, then I wondered why I was stressing about what to put in them. This is supposed to be about my kids, not if I picked out the right treats for the kids coming to the party! So I stopped worrying. No it's not rude.
