  • Wait another 5 days or so. It still needs to heal a bit more before it is "water-ready." When it isn't pink anymore (about 5-7 days) it is ok.

  • You can give them a bath the same day it falls off. There is no need to wait, water wont hurt it. However soap might irritate it, but had no probs with my daugher when hers fell off at day 10.

  • Um... I gave my son a bath with the umbilical cord on... I thought they told everyone this in the hospital...The purple/black dye they put on the umbilical cord dries it up within the first day and you can give them baths right away. Maybe it's just what they put on my son... But that's how I thought it was

  • I only waited until her regular bath time that day. Give her a bath when you feel comfortable.

  • Uuuummm...You can bathe them when it's still on, just don't submerge it in water...besides...newborns get that sour milk smell in their lil neck rolls...eeewwww....If it makes you feel more comfortable....Use a warm washcloth with a little bit of soap and wipe him/her down and another damp cloth to rinse your baby off.
