Can you drink alcohol in your third trimester?

You're having a scheduled c-section in less than a week? Did anyone break down and have a small drink (I'm talking beer or wine) right before they were about to have their baby (if you knew when or were already in active labor)? I have had about 1/2 beer this whole pregnancy but I will be having a c-section Friday (medical reasons I can't control) and think maybe half a beer or a full one shouldn't hurt at this point. I'm 39 wks.

  • you shouldn't drink while you're pregnant... it goes to the baby too, along with everything else you eat, drink, smoke and sniff (not saying you do drugs, just telling you)

  • I'm glad you asked, so I CAN TELL YOU NOT TO!!!! Instead of thinking "It can't hurt at this point," you should be thinking "It can't hurt to wait" !!!!!!! You are almost done, what the heck are you thinking??? Why would you look for an excuse to drink during pregnancy? Maybe it will help to remind you that when you give birth, they will do blood tests on both you and baby--and if there is so much as a trace of drugs or alcohol--well, it won't be good.......

  • Hello, does anyone know how to read? She has only had a 1/2 beer during her pregnancy and the last I heard, you can have a glass of wine once in a while while pregnant.

  • There's no need to be defensive. Try to realize how your comment looks to other people. To be honest, my impression was that you were just jonesing for a drink. If I'm wrong, I apologize. I've heard of people having wine after an amnio, or to lower blood pressure, but not just for no reason at all... It just seems silly to be needing a drink when you don't have long to wait anyway.... why NOT wait?

  • I dont think it could hurt too much...but why risk it you know? You've made it this far, you might as well wait. I am not saying you should or shouldnt...but think that probably wont even give you a buzz, so why?

  • I agree with the previous posts (well some of them). If you have made it this far, why not wait? But no, technically one drink is not horrible during pregnancy. I never drank with any of mine (other than literally a sip of wine with my daughter), but I know that in some instances people do have a half glass of wine (2-3 oz) occasionally.

  • There is nothing wrong with a drink during pregnancy...my nurse even recommended a margarita at the end of my pregnancy.
