I'm working while pregnant. How can I request more time off my feet at my job?

I work for a small business so there are no benefits such as sick days, vacation days, days for appointments exc. I am a manager and run my own cellphone store by myself (pretty good for being 19). My schedule is everyday from 10am-7pm with a 30 minute lunch break I have tuesdays off and get 1 saturday a month. 1 day a week I go to the main store which is very busy!! I'm there most the day by myself unless my boss (the store owner) is there I work there from 10-7 and he doesn't allow sitting or resting leaning on things exc. I have to bend down a lot which causes really bad pains in my stomach and back. My boss is steadily on my back (even if Im working 100 mph) saying speed it up and things like that. When I get home my feet & ankles r huge. If I ever call in or leave early for being sick they threaten to take my managment position & my store away from me.. I cant afford to loose this job what do I do! (I'm 5 months preg.)

  • I can't see how anyone would treat a pregnant women that way. The only thing I can think of is he's being hard on you because he resents that your pregnant, maybe in general or maybe at 19. I would do some research on employment laws in your state. My DH works for verizon in NY. Sometimes he likes to work through lunch so he can come home early. Well they only let him do it for special circumstances because by law he has to take an hour break. They can't fire you because your pregnant. He may also think he's got you, your stuck and he can treat you like sh%t. Making a stand and demanding respect may be a good option.

  • Try getting a note from your dr stating what you can and can't do. If you have a note there is nothing the manager can do.

  • Well he's been that way since day 1 even b4 I was pregnant. They are very nice people but when it comes to money and business well..... So I don't believe that its because I'm 19 or because I'm pregnant , he treats all his employees that way. I've looked into laws and because it is a small business there is nothing except the fact that he can't fire me. But he hasn't ever mentioned firing me just taking my managment position away.

  • If your truly an asset to him and he needs you as a manager, I wouldn't worry about the threats. Does he have kids?? On the up side your red blood cells should start catching up around now, you should start feeling less tired.
