How can I celebrate Easter if I'm not religious?

Though I don't label my beliefs they do lean to the "pagan" side of things so I was wondering what sort of "easter time" spring activities are fun for little kids that don't involve Jesus or the Bible.

  • Egg hunts for sure. Most easter games/activities don't have anything to with Jesus or the bible so I'm not exactly sure what you're wanting. I will do some looking around for ideas for you though.

  • I do know that most of the traditional activities are not Christian based, but I was just wondering what other non Christian moms do. Thanks

  • Egg hunts, making paper baskets.

There is a book called Circle Round that has great ideas for having the kids involved in crafts and cooking for the various holidays/sabbats. Usually they are quite simple like making windsocks out of construction paper or dough figures, etc.

I believe there is also a group based on that book here on CafeMom.

We will probably do eggs since my two older boys are now able to do them decently. Making an egg hunt out back, etc. Not sure what else we will do. We have set out cream and fruits for the fairies the night before Ostara too...the boys loved that.

  • We tend to celebrate Ostara as a sort of spring appreciation day. We take a hike in the woods to look for new growth, make a feast of "spring foods," develop the ideas we came up with at Yule to make our lives better in the new year & of course eat chocolate eggs. When my daughter was little we used to do crafts, mostly things I found on line.

  • They make a ham, invite people over they do not allow to come to their house except on easter and Christmas because they do not like them. Then they go outside and hide easter eggs so their relatives kids can go out and rip up their 300 dollar outfits in brier bramble trying to get a golden egg that has nothing in it except a jelly bean egg and a half dollar. They do EXACTLY what other folks do on easter.

  • Easter IS Pagan.

    Everything about it is Pagan.

Even the name "Easter" is stolen from "Ostara" or "Eostre" a Goddess of the Moon, springtime, and fertility.
