  • LABEL everything. box your things by rooms.

    pack ahead of time.

and....try to make sure you know where everything is so that you dont lose anything. we lost some movies (which i thought i packed them all up together, but several are missing) and my step-daughters nebulizer (how do you lose something that large???). who knows what else is missing.....ha ha.

    good luck

  • Hire movers if you can. If not, make a goal to pack at least 3 boxes a day until moving day. It is much more pleasant than trying to do it all at once. Label all the boxes with the ROOM it goes in and what is in it to make unpacking easier. Reserve your rental truck and change your address with the post office way in advance.

  • Pack each room at a time marking all of the boxes with their names and if can a small list of what is inside of the box...
For breakables get some of those packing peanuts to layer the bottom and top of the inside as you pack it and label it with neon color marker that it's breakable and which side up...
Also do as much packing ahead of time... I had just about my entire house packed 1 week prior to moving... if you have friends and not movers helping, offer a snack and drink also as a thank you...
If you don't want the movers walking all thru the new place find a good large area to have all of the boxes put and you put them in their proper places...
Also find your rental truck (if not using a co.) soon... get is reserved for the day(s) you will need it.
    Good Luck

  • I agree with what was posted so far!

Let me add: Put lables in the new house (i.e. master bed/ daughter room) and have the lables match the boxes. I even went as far as color coding them.

ALSO, purge! This is the time to get rid of stuff that you don't need. You are going to be touching EVERYTHING in your house. If it isn't something that you need, or a keepsake, get rid of it. I was amazed how much stuff I got rid of (and how much more I got rid of when I finally emptied the last of the boxes 3 years later!)

    Best of luck!

  • Throw away anything you don't need or give to charity. Lable boxes by all means - you will need your plates, pots and pans, and glasses and knives, forks, and spoons before you need your knick knacks.
