Do you allow your child to have a Facebook page?

Let her have one but get one yourself and know her login and password. Tell her she is to use the strictest safety measures at all times and that you will check on it periodically. (i.e. only her friends can see her profile. No contact information in her profile.) Also, no friends on Facebook that she doesn't know in REAL LIFE. Good Luck

I have a 13 yr old and I won't allow it. No facebook, myspace etc.

She has very limited use of the computer anyway so it's not that big of an issue with us because she's always have limited use.

Those site to see seem like a perverts dream.

Thanks ladies, I really haven't decided. Our computer at home is broke, and I use the computer at either my parents or work to read CM:) My daughter has access at my parent's house, but still...

There is nothing wrong with facebook or myspace, but it does require some involvement from the parents. I got educated real quick when my older kids wanted one at that age, I got it first learned how to move around (wanted to throw the computer a few times) then allowed them. I have access at all times, I am also one of thier friends on thier page. I don;t go looking at it regularly but every once in a while I pop on and check, when they are in school so they don't erase anything before I get a chance to look. Inform yourself and then make a choice, it really is a matter of preferance.

I would ask for the user name and password so that you can check and see what they are up to

none of it is safe. at 13 i dont see a need for it. i ran into a similar situation with my 8 year old SD...i know she is younger, but age does not change how safe facebook & myspace are. facebook was originally created for college students and alumni....

my SD had a myspace account that her BM or step sister (not my daughter, stepdad's daughter) set up for her. when i found out about it i was so shocked. it was even set up with an e-mail account using her full name and said that she was 15 on it! as soon as we got the internet at home, i deleted the myspace account and her e-mail with her full name. i created a new e-mail address for her that didn't have her name in it. her mom didn't find out for a few weeks. she sent me a nasty text message. i didnt respond but i havent heard anything about it since. BM was mad that we didnt consult her, but i thought BM should have consulted us about SD getting one to begin with

My 12 1/2 yr old has a MySpace that I have the password to and check on a daily basis. He also knows that he cannot accept any friends requests, read messages or comments unless I am there to check them first. His profile is also private. He has been very responsible with it and knows to tell me if he is uncomfortable with anything he receives. He is very good about that. We have talked about internet safety and knows that the second he does something I won't approve of the account is deleted. Let her have one on a temp basis to see how she handles it for say 60 days and reevaluate at that time to see if she is ready to continue with the understanding that you can and will delete at anytime.

My 14 yr old doesn't like myspace or facebook. She does have an account on myyearbook though. For the most part it's only teens with a few older people on there. I have her user name and password and she knows never to put personal info on there.

my 15 and 14 yr olds have them I know their passwords, they are on my friend's list. they ask before they add people and we even play some of the games together. (they even asked if it was OK to add their aunt when she sent a request!)

My 12 yr old can't wait until he is 13 and get his own account. (that is the 'required age' FB has for members)

my boys just interact with me, each other, grandparents (we are inCA, they are in OH), some homeschool friends.
