What do you recommend to remove wallpaper?

STEAM... & patience.... LOTS of both

walmart sells a device that perfirates the wallpaper and a spray to use with it, works like a charm

My SIL and I were having a debate on which one people would say--her idea-fabric softener and water, and -my idea-ammonia and water, and nobody seems to say either, so we have both lost the debate!

ronjwake WOW wish I was on here about 6 months ago... I hate wallpaper now after trying to remove it... Good to know I don't have to run away and hide from wall paper the rest of my life... I still get chills thinking about it lol... :)

Get a wallpaper "tiger", its a little tool with teeth that make perforations in the top layer. Be easy doing this part, you don't want to make teeth marks in the wall behind the paper!

Skip the steamer and go straight to a wallpaper remover or fabric softener mixed with water and spray the top layer. Allow to sit. Pull off top layer. If you see it's not wet behind, spray more and let sit. When you have the top layer off, spray the bottom really well and remove paper with a wide putty knife.

Wipe walls down well to remove any excess wallpaper paste and remover before painting.

I have one of those wallpaper perforators and I hated it. I found that I was able to pull off the top layer, the part with the pattern on it, fairly easily, then I just used water to get the paper layer wet and it peeled off really easily. The real trick is to get the water or whatever you are using (I've heard water and fabric softener before, but never water and ammonia - that would stink) beyond the patterned part, which is often washable or water resistant. Then you have to clean the wall really well before you can paint or whatever. The people who had my house before us smoked and it really smelled when I was removing the wallpaper, ugh, so stinky!

I have heard water and fabric sheet like bounce.

We had to remove alot of wallpaper when we bought our house, we sprayed hot water on the paper, let it soak in and sprayed some more till the paper was coming up on it's own really good before we scraped it off.

Hot water and dishsoap in a spray bottle. AFter I peel whatever I can dry, I spray the soap and water, and then it just peels off with a scraper. I use a metal spatula.
