Can I feed my 3-month-old baby food?

He has 6 oz every 2-3hrs and i think thats to much. Though he isnt over weight or close to it, i dont have the money to but extra milk after my wic is up. Could i give him baby food?

  • well really you should ask your doctor, but i think if he can swallow well enough it shouldnt be too much of a problem. but he really needs milk still.

  • Thats why WIC supports the nursing so much, it's free and if baby isn't getting enough you can mix in little bits of formula. But if you've already abandoned that option, they ask you not to give baby food until closer to 6 months now. Since it's a matter of finances for you, I absolutly recomend the baby rice cereal mixed in a bottle with the formula first before you do the solids. It'll probably keep him more full too =)

  • Speaking from experience.... I wouldn't introduce ANY kind of solid foods until your baby is closer to 6 months old if not longer. Do some google searching on introducing solids to early. You'll find that there is a lot of research that supports by introducing solids to early, you give your child a MUCH higher rate of food allergies. Again I'm speaking from experience... My 7.5yo DS has several food allergies, and I'm certain they are from adding solids to soon.

  • well yes you can what, our grandparents did. they will be just fine i would start with some thing like fruits and veggies the mooshy stuff.something you can mash from your plate avacados a great for the brain. i started all my kids around that age and by 6-8 months they were eating more solid and by a year they did fine with most anything. they say start with veggies so they dont stray from them later but it never really mattered with mine. the baby will be fine if you choose to and probably happier.

  • You shouldnt feed your baby baby food until the baby is close to six months. At three months your baby does not have the motor skills to learn how to take the food from the front of the mouth to the back and swallow. My doctor says that you should wait until 5 or 6 months because if you give it to early they could choke. Remember you baby's stomach is only the size of it's fist and at three months your baby should only be eating around 4 oz. The most common mistake mothers who feed there baby formula is giving them to much witch could cause your baby to gain too much wait and could also lead to obesity.

  • You should definitely NOT feed anything but breastmilk or formula to your baby right now. They are far too early. A baby's gut is not mature enough to digest anything until between 4-6 months and the newest medical advice is to wait until AT LEAST 6 months.

  • Your baby should still be on formula. That's a reasonable amount to be eating. Babies grow very fast and digest quicker than adults so they require more feedings. You should continue to receive formula with WIC until the baby is a year old (I believe). You shouldn't start a 3 month old on solids yet. If you can afford baby food you can afford an extra can of formula. You could always check with a food bank, church, or your doctor's office for extra cans. Make sure you're mixing the formula properly. Some moms will add more formula to the bottle than is called for cause they think it'll help the baby sleep longer...

  • The biggest problem with feeding baby food to early is the baby will get bad gas, constipation, and even bad food reactions. Talk with your doctor and the with WIC office about it!

  • i would give him baby cereal in a bowl with a little baby formula because most doctors advise if you decide to give him anything bottle with the cereal is not the best way. Now when he turn 6 mths then you can do stage 1 in the baby jar foods.
