Do stretch marks look worse on second and subsequent pregnancies?

I feel like my stretch marks have healed quite nicely and I'd like to have another baby, but I've heard from a couple chicks that the second time you get pregnant, they just look way worse.

  • I gained 65 pounds with my son (I was bound and determined to enjoy eating whatever the crap I wanted lol) The ONLY stretch marks I have are very light and I have to actually pull the skin on the bottom of my belly and thighs to even see them. I honestly believe this is from the "ANTI STRETCH MARK" things I did from day 1 when I found out I was pregnant:: EVERY time I got out of the shower I coated my body with baby oil and let it sit for about 30 seconds before I dried off. And I used the cocoa butter constantly. To the point of any time you rubbed my belly you could moisturize your own hands with the excess lol and then at 3 months I started carrying the palmers anti itch oil and rubbing it on through out the day. also I hear that certain fruits will help with swelling so I ate those to 'depuff' myself so the skin didnt stretch anymore then need be.

  • well the first child is sometimes easy on the body, the second child stretches the skin that much more and the more your skin stretches the more your stretch marks get deeper it seems, i had 4 kids and there's no bouncing back to my body like when i had my first child, the first time it didnt even look like i went through pregnancy

  • Well my belly got HUGE with my son because he was definitely a big boy, but the rest of me still looked pretty normal. This time around I want to try for a girl and I heard that they are usually smaller. Plus now that I know what puts on the pounds, I'm going to stay away from that so my belly stays smaller.

Will stretch marks still look worse if my belly doesn't grow as big as last time?

  • For some yes, for some no. My sister got horrible stretch marks with her first pregnancy. They healed and she got pregnant again. The second and third pregnancies yielded very few marks, the fourth however was a doozy. If you gained weight in spurts with your first pregnancy it could have lead to more severe stretch marks. This time around be more strict with your diet and try to exercise often. Making sure the weight gain is gradual can really help keep them at bay. Don't waste your time with cocoa butter though. There is too much water in it to actually seep into the dermis far enough to help. You can rub vitamin E on your stomach to help, but that cant guarantee that they don't come. Just get Vit E capsules and pop them open and rub it in.

  • I only gained arounds 14 pounds when I was pregnant with my first, a little boy he was 7lbs 10oz and i was only 123 pounds when i got pregnant and 137-140 when i had him. And i got stretch marks...EVERYWHERE. tummy....thighs...and all over my boobs. I have also been nervous about having another child when the time is right if the ones on my stomach and breast which has started to fade but of course will always still be there will get worse...
