How do you get fitted for a bra?

I'm having a hard time finding a bra that fits, so I want to get fitted for one. What's a good place to go to and do I need to be toppless for the fitting?

  • I went to Victoria Secret for my fitting. The woman did it over top my shirt.

  • JC Penney or MAcys both have trained women for this. Go to lingerie and tell them you need to be fitted. The last two times for me we went into a dressing room. They measured under my shirt but over my bra.

  • You can also go to Layne Bryant if you are a "more curvy" girl, and they just do it over your clothes. Have fun shopping!

  • I had a bra-fitting at Sonoma, the woman was fantastic. That store is the 'sister' store to Chico's.

  • I got fitted for a bra, all of them were different sizes...Macys, they said I was a size 38 D, Vickies ( Vickories Scret) said I was a size 34 C, JcPenny said I was a size 38 C and so far, I decided to go and try it on myself. I also figured out that my boobs are different sizes when I have my period and when I do not have my period and everytime in between. So I have different sizes for certain times and so on. I think it is more a guess from those women. No you do not have to be naked in the changing rooms. Some will measure you in front of everyone in the store ( mainly department stores..from my experience) so make sure you go to several. It turns out I am a 36 C normally and during my period and between periods, I am a 36 D

  • Dillard's also does fittings. It is best if you have a bra on, but no shirt. They can get a more accurate fit without the extra fabric from you shirt. Make sure your bra isn't padded, because that will also hinder an accurate fit. If you have someone who can assist you, you can do it at home too. Get a sewing tape measure and have someone wrap it around where your bra band should fit. That is your band size. Then move the tape measure around the tip of your breasts. Every inch is one cup. For example, band size is 34 and across chest is is 38. You are a 34 D.
