How can I naturally reduce stress?

I HAVE BEEN UNDER AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF STRESS LATELY WITH FINANCES,CHILDREN NEEDING ALL MY ATTENTION, HUSBAND NOT HELPING OUT. I FEEL LIKE RUNNING AWAY MOST OF THE TIMES. I AM SO OVERWHELMED AND I CANT SEEM TO GET A GOOD NIGHT'S REST. I HAVE NO TIME TO SEE A DOCTOR AND THEY WILL ONLY JUST PRESCIBE SOME MEDS WHICH I AM EXTREMELY NOT INTERESTED AT THIS POINT. DOES ANYONE GO THROUGH THIS SOMETIMES IN THEIR LIFE OR AM I JUST OVERREACTING AND BEING SELFISH?

  • Meditate, meditate, meditate!! It's relatively easy to learn, to practice and to add into your daily routine. First you have to learn how to breathe. Take a few minutes - lock yourself in the bathroom if you have to - and just pay attention to your breathing. Deep, slow, full breaths that completely fill up your entire abdomen like it's a giant inner tube. Close your eyes and just pay attention to your breathing. When your mind starts to wonder about something else, just stop and go back to the breathing.

After a little "practice" you'll be able to do short meditations while waiting in line at the grocery store, while putting the kids to bed, etc. And you'll find you're a lot more relaxed and FOCUSED. Yes, that extra oxygen to your brain helps you see things in a different (probably better) light.

    Blessings!!

  • Prayer AND meditation, for me. Also, look up diaphragmatic breathing online and learn it. It drops my heart rate and helps quite a bit with stress.

  • You are NOT being selfish!!! Every mom goes through high levels of stress at some point in time, and it is good that you are asking for advice on how to handle it. The best way to get back into a more peaceful mindset is to make sure that you take time for yourself. Enforce bedtimes with your kids to ensure that their day ends a little bit sooner than yours. Then grab a chair and a sweater and a good book or a cup of chamomile tea and head outside to clear your thoughts. The evening air and quietness at that time of day might become something that you look forward to! :) Best wishes!

  • I clean... it's great exercise! I also play tag with my son and the running around is also great exercise. Also a good nap helps me feel better and helps me cope better with the stress.

  • honey I have been the same way I have four kids a hubby that does NOTHING!!! and a house to clean. I to do not like taking pills. I just know that there is a better way. What I have started doing is being honest with myself. Alot of times we as mothers put so much on ourselves that we don't realize it is killing us mentally and physically. so I have started realizing I am not going to get the whole house cleaned in one day I go room by room cleaning the important ones first then getting to the others last. Then I have me time mind you that may only be 15 min in the bath. I go an light as many candles I can find in my house put them around my bathroom lock my bathroom turn off the lights and cover the window turn on some nature sounds (ocean one is the best) something about water always relaxes me turn my bath water and soak for at least 15 min. I know it don't like much but has worked wonders in my life.

  • There's a supplement called 5-HTP which is a 'natural' form of Zoloft. Also St. John's Wort.
